Conferences & Events

The VACBP hosts three annual conferences where we will bring subject matter experts, senior officials at DMAS and DBHDS, policy leaders, MCO representatives and others to our members so they can learn, make connections, promote their agencies, pursue partnership opportunities, ask questions and share concerns.
Registration is now open for the VACBP's Spring Conference, Stronger Together -- Adapting to Change: Meeting Virginia's Behavioral Health Needs. The all-virtual conference will take place March 24-26, 2021, and will feature a great line-up of top-notch speakers and guests.  Conference sessions will include:
  • Integrated Care: Translating a Good Idea into Real Clinical Practice, featuring William Nicoll, LPC, and Irene Temple, LCSW, of Anthem, Inc., who will provide this training on integrated care and how to apply a wholistic approach to patient care.
  • The COVID-19 Vaccine: Distribution, Myths Versus Facts and Community Outreach, featuring Secretary of Health and Human Resources, Dr. Dan Carey,  and other guests who will report on the state's efforts to distribute the vaccine, myths versus facts about the vaccine and an overview of Virginia's efforts to reach Virginia's most vulnerable residents.
  • DMAS Updates: Leadership, Enhancement and Working with the MCOs, featuring DMAS Director, Karen Kimsey, who will share her vision for the agency, followed by reports from senior members of her team who will provide updates on the status of phase 1 behavioral health enhancement service implementation, anticipated next steps for enhancement and the newly developed MCO Resolution Panel.
  • Comprehensive Crisis Services: The Role of Private-Sector Providers, where we will take a deep dive on the enhanced comprehensive crisis continuum of services, the intersection of the enhanced services with STEP-VA, the Marcus Alert legislation and efforts to implement it, and the perspective of law enforcement leaders on collaboration with providers to support individuals in crisis.
  • OneVACBP Workshop: The What, Why and How of Applying an Equity Lens, featuring Sylisa Lambert-Woodard, EdD, FACASAC, LCSW, LSATP, CSAC, Board Certified Diplomate-Fellow, President and CEO, Pathway Homes, Inc., and Dr. A’Tasha Christian, Director of Operations, Guided Paths, who will lead this workshop to help attendees better understand what an equity lens is, why it's important and how to apply it. It will include virtual small- and large-group discussions and break-outs where participants will practice applying an equity lens in real-life scenarios.
  • Business Resources: Risk Management, Safety, Insurance, Banking and More, featuring presenters in the insurance and banking sectors who will provide valuable tools, actionable guidance and other tips to help you manage the business side of your agencies.

Attendees could also earn up to 12 CEs, pending approval.
